Experiences and sense of family caregivers of patient in oncology palliative care

Resumo: | Cancer and its treatment have a major influence on patients and their relatives. This study aimed to find the experience and feelings of caregivers’ family members of cancer patients in palliative care. This is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach, involving six family caregivers of cancer patients in palliative care, attached to the system home from Londrina/Parana. Data were collected from July to August of 2008, through semi-structured interview recorded. Using the Analysis Content from Bardin to categorize the speeches collected. The categories highlighted were the caregiver's trajectory in front of the terminal disease and perceptions of caring about the situation, with the subcategories: From diagnosis to palliative care at home; as a synonym for Cancer death and suffering; changes in the daily caregiver, and Dependence patient's childish, the death as will of God and the front Feelings suffering. The results indicate the importance of the professionals to consider patient and caregiver health as the unit of care, because the family caregiver is a fundamental key in the final stages of the disease and is subject to feelings of fear, anguish and helplessness in the face of the proximity the death of the person to whom directs the care. |

El objetivo de este estudio fue conocer la experiencia y los sentimientos del cuidador familiar de paciente con cáncer en cuidados paliativos. Es una investigación descriptiva con enfoque cualitativo, en la que participaron seis cuidadores familiares de personas con cáncer en cuidados paliativos, vinculada al Sistema de Atención en el Hogar de Londrina/Paraná. Los datos fueron recolectados entre junio a agosto de 2008, a través de entrevista semi-estructurada registrada. He sido utilizado el análisis del contenido de Bardin para clasificar los discursos recogidos. Las categorías que se destacaron fueron: la trayectoria del cuidador frente a la enfermedad terminal y la percepción del cuidador sobre la situación, con las subcategorías: Del diagnóstico a los cuidados paliativos en el hogar; el cáncer como sinónimo de muerte y sufrimiento; cambios en el cotidiano del cuidador, dependencia y infantilización del paciente; muerte como voluntad de Dios y sentimientos hacia el sufrimiento. Los resultados indican la importancia de los profesionales consideraren el paciente y el cuidador como una unidad de atención, pues el cuidador familiar es un actor clave en las últimas etapas de la enfermedad y está sujeto a sentimientos de temor, angustia y desamparo en la cara de la proximidad de la muerte de la persona que dirige la atención.O câncer e seu tratamento exercem grande influência sobre os pacientes e seus familiares. Esse estudo buscou conhecer a vivência e sentimentos do cuidador familiar do paciente oncológico em cuidados paliativos. Trata-se de pesquisa descritiva com abordagem qualitativa, na qual participaram seis cuidadores familiares de portadores de câncer em cuidados paliativos, vinculados ao Sistema de Internação Domiciliar de Londrina/Paraná. Os dados foram coletados no período de junho a agosto de 2008, por meio da entrevista semi-estruturada gravada. Utilizou-se a Análise Temática de Conteúdo de Bardin para categorizar os discursos coletados. As categorias evidenciadas foram a Trajetória do cuidador frente à doença terminal e a Percepção do cuidador acerca da situação, com as subcategorias: Do diagnóstico aos cuidados paliativos no domicílio; Câncer como sinônimo de morte e sofrimento; Mudanças no cotidiano do cuidador; Dependência e infantilização do doente; Morte como vontade de Deus e Sentimentos frente ao sofrimento.
