The family experience of a person with diabetes mellitus and in treatment of hemodialysis

Resumo: The illness experience includes biological processes but also subjective processes that must be approached in the practices of health care. However reveal the subjective processes of the experience have been a challenge for health professionals. Interpretative anthropology has subsidized the understanding of this process as incorporating sociocultural aspects to illness. Study of qualitative nature, type Case Study aimed to understand the family experience of a person with diabetes mellitus, chronic renal insufficiency and in treatment of hemodialysis. The study was conducted with a user receiving hemodialysis treatment, registered at a clinic in the state of Mato Grosso and his wife, in the period from February to July 2008, through interview. Data analysis allowed us to learn that living the illness is an experience in which meanings are reconstructed and lived on the basis of previous experience and perspectives on life, making the family as reference. Important aspects of illness marked the experience of Moisés and his wife, for example the meaning attributed to the nuclear family, the fragmentation of the social structure, the limitations and restrictions, the effects of the disease in family life, the behaviors, the construction of male subjectivity and the renal transplantation.

Solo que, revelar los procesos subjetivos de esta experiencia, ha sido un desafío a los profecionales de la salud. La antropología interpretativa ha subsidiado la comprención de este proceso en la medida que integra aspectos socioculturales a la enfermedad. El estudio de naturaleza cualitativa, como Estudio de Caso ha tenido como objetivo comprender la experiencia en familia de una persona con diabetes mellitus, insuficiencia renal crónica en tratamiento por hemodialisis. Este estudio fue realizado por medio de entrevista con un usuário de hemodialisis y con su esposa, en una clínica en el estado de Mato Grosso, en el período de febrero a julio de 2008. Esta experiencia, en la cual los significados son reconstruídos y vividos con base en las experiencias anteriores y en las perspectivas de vida, teniendo a la familia como referencia. Aspectos importantes de la enfermedad marcaron la experiencia de Moises y de su esposa como el significado atribuído a la familia nuclear, a la fragmentación de la estructura social, a las limitaciones y restricciones, el reflejo de la enfermedad de la vida en familia, los comportamientos, la construcción de la subjetividad masculina y el tratamiento renal.A experiência de adoecimento incorpora processos biológicos, mas também processos subjetivos, que devem ser abordados nas práticas de atenção em saúde. No entanto, revelar os processos subjetivos da experiência tem sido um desafio aos profissionais de saúde. A antropologia interpretativa tem subsídiado a compreensão deste processo na medida que integra aspectos socioculturais ao adoecimento. Estudo de natureza qualitativa, tipo Estudo de Caso teve por objetivo compreender a experiência em família de uma pessoa com diabetes mellitus, insuficiência renal crônica em tratamento por hemodiálise. O estudo foi realizado com um usuário em hemodiálise, em uma clínica no Estado de Mato Grosso e com sua esposa, no período de fevereiro a julho de 2008, por meio da entrevista. A análise dos dados nos permitiu apreender que vivenciar o adoecimento é uma experiência no qual os significados são reconstruídos e vividos com base nas experiências anteriores e nas perspectivas de vida, tendo a família como referência.
