In the early 1960s, under the influence of events such as the Cuban Revolution, several organizations emerged in Brazil that opposed the Brazilian Communist Party, the traditional left. This left, which became known as the Brazilian New Left, regardless of the political program and conception regarding the brazilian revolution, thickened the struggle for reforms, starting with the Movement for Legality, headed by Leonel Brizola, in 1961. In the specific context of the state of Goiás, the then governor Mauro Borges also played an important role. Having built up a positive image for himself, considered progressive and legalistic, the executive's representative managed to integrate several militants from these organizations and parties into his government, in a political phenomenon known as transformism. According to our thesis, this maneuver caused the acronyms to lose autonomy, weakening them in the face of the 1964 military intervention. The new trends also entered the territory of Goiás, starting to dispute hegemony with the PCB. In our work, we study the experience of these traditional and heterodox lefts throughout the territory of Goiás, within the geopolitical limits of the time frame of our object, that is, from the beginning of the 1960s to 1972, when they were completely dismantled by the repressive apparatus. of the Military Regime. However, we had to make a brief return to the mid-1950s, to address a peasant movement that greatly instigated the left of the period – the movement of the squatters of Trombas and Formoso, the only successful peasant movement in Brazil.
