Resumo: In this study, systematized as a thesis, the objective was to discuss about creole drum and the performance of the coreira on circle dances associated with St. Benedict, the Moor, that take place in the cities of São Luís and Alcântara in the state of Maranhão, Brazil. The field research was carried out in the period from 2017 to 2019 in the mentioned cities. It was observed that the creole drum is a cultural performance, considered as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2007 by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute - (IPHAN). The focus is on the drums of promise, linked to the religiosity of black Catholicism and performed as a way of thankfulness and devotion, above all, to St. Benedict, the Moor. The discussions proposed in this material involve the notions of Creole drum, memory, orality, oral narrative, popular culture, popular Catholicism and the centrality of women in the creole drum. As a methodological approach, the basis used was the oral narrative for trying to understand the drum and the performance of the coreira from the perspective of women / coreiras and the poetnography which is used as a gateway to the creative process that is derived from the junction of the field research and the researcher’s life story. From the immersion in the field, by means of Poetnography, the visual productions called visual ecossonances are derived.

A pesquisa de campo foi realizada no período de 2017 a 2019 nas cidades mencionadas. Observou-se que o tambor de crioula é uma performance cultural, considerada Patrimônio Cultural Imaterial da Humanidade desde 2007 pelo Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional – (IPHAN). O enfoque principal são os chamados tambores de promessa, vinculados com a religiosidade do catolicismo negro e realizados como modo de agradecimento e devoção, sobretudo, a São Benedito. As discussões propostas neste material envolvem as noções tambor de crioula, memória, oralidade, narrativa oral, cultura popular, catolicismo popular e a centralidade das mulheres no tambor. Como abordagem metodológica usou-se como base a narrativa oral por buscar entender o tambor e a performance da coreira a partir da perspectiva das mulheres/coreiras e a poetnografia que é utilizada como uma porta de acesso ao processo criativo que é derivado dos atravessamentos do campo e da história de vida da pesquisadora.
