Resumo: The present work aims to analyze the books Quarto de despejo (1960) and Casa de Alvenaria (1961) by Carolina Maria de Jesus, seeking to reflect on the identity search of the protagonist of the two novels. The nature of the research is bibliographical, focusing mainly on studies on identity construction and black feminism. In this regard, we will draw parallels on how the identity of Carolina Maria de Jesus is constituted from a vision that involves her gender, her color and the social class she belonged. In Quarto de despejo (1960) there is an incessant search by the narrator-character for the recognition of the public and to assert herself as a writer to get out of that place. In this regard, the author uses her voice as a social denunciation and escapism when addressing in the work the social issues in which she and others in her groups were involved. We are also interested in problematizing the changes that occur from one work to another with the protagonist and how her identity is constructed. Thus, in Casa de Alvenaria (1961), the narrator reports her dissatisfaction after the publication of her first work and we observe that the literary status of the author-character, for being black, mother-woman, and a slum woman, is something that distances her from literate system and becomes a negative sentence about her authorship. Carolina Maria de Jesus is the symbol of the importance of writing as the possibility of giving projection to those who were, socially and culturally, silenced for centuries. For the work, studies were called from de Ciampa (1987), Hall (2015), Davis (2016), Gonzales (2019), Mota (2011), among others.

A natureza da pesquisa é bibliográfica, tendo como foco, principalmente, os estudos sobre construção identitária e o feminismo negro. Nesse sentido, abordaremos a intersecção da identidade de Carolina Maria de Jesus que é constituída a partir de uma visão que envolve seu gênero, sua cor e a classe social a qual pertencia. Em Quarto de despejo (1960), há uma busca incessante da narradora-personagem pelo reconhecimento do público e em se autoafirmar como escritora para sair de seu “quarto de despejo”. Dessa maneira, a autora utiliza sua voz como denúncia social ao abordar na obra as questões sociais em que ela e outros de seu grupo estavam inseridos. Interessa-nos problematizar também as mudanças que ocorrem com a protagonista de uma obra a outra e como se dá a construção de sua identidade nas duas narrativas selecionadas. Assim, em Casa de alvenaria (1961), a narradora relata suas insatisfações após a publicação de sua primeira obra e observamos que o status literário da personagem-autora, por ser negra, mãe-mulher e favelada, é algo que dificulta sua inserção no sistema letrado e se transforma em sentença negativa sobre sua autoria. Carolina Maria de Jesus é o símbolo da importância da escrita como possibilidade de projeção para os grupos que foram, social e culturalmente, por séculos, silenciados.
