Resumo: | Bean cultivation is significantly important for Brazilian family farming. This legume is one of the main staple foods for various families in the country, especially low-income households, and it is probably their main source of vegetable protein. In this context, this research aims at studying the production chain of beans which are produced by family farming in Goiás, from the perspective of competitiveness regarding the bean production and commercialization operated by this same producer before the bean market. It is a basic hypothesis the fact that the competitiveness drivers used by family farming are fragile. Nevertheless, those family farmers make use of divercificated strategies in the bean production and commercialization which lead them to compete in the market. This paper consists in an exploratory case study whose primary data collection was conducted through elaboration and application of semi-structured interviews with closed questions, aiming at collecting information from key agents from upstream to downstream. We have interviewed two producers from Planalto Sectional and two from Vale do Paranã Sectional; one technician from EMATER Vale Planalto and five from EMATER Vale do Paranã Sectional; two private technicians from EMATER Planalto Sectional; one grain broker from Planalto Sectional and three secretaries of municipal agriculture from Vale do Paranã Sectional; having a total of sixteen interviews held in March and in June of 2015. The results suggest that the considered hypothesis is true, once the drivers used by the farmers in question lead them to competitive advantages in bean production and commercialization. However, according to Van Duren et al. (1991) methodology, this competitiveness is considered very low, next to neutrality. Therefore, it is important that those producers give special attention to such competitiveness. |

Essa leguminosa é um dos alimentos básicos de várias famílias no país, em especial das de baixa renda, provavelmente sendo a sua principal fonte de proteína vegetal. Nesse contexto, o objetivo geral desta pesquisa é estudar a cadeia produtiva do feijão produzido pela agricultura familiar em Goiás, sob a perspectiva da competitividade existente na produção e comercialização da leguminosa por esse mesmo produtor frente ao mercado da mesma. Temse como hipótese básica o fato de os direcionadores de competitividade utilizados pela agricultura familiar serem frágeis. No entanto, esses agricultores familiares usam estratégias divercificadasna produção e comercialização do feijão, que os conduzem a competir no mercado. Este trabalho consiste em um estudo de caso exploratório, cujo levantamento de dados primários foi realizado por meio da elaboração e aplicação, mediante entrevista, de um questionários semiestruturados com perguntas fechadas, visando a coleta de informações de agentes-chave do montante a jusante. Foram entrevistados dois produtores na Regional Planalto e dois na Regional Vale do Paranã; um técnico da EMATER Vale Planalto e cinco na Regional EMATER Vale Paranã; dois técnicos particulares na Regional EMATER Planalto; um corretor de grãos na Regional Planalto e três secretários da agricultura municipais na Regional Vale do Paranã, totalizando dezesseis entrevistas, realizadas nos meses de março e junho de 2015. Os resultados apontam que a hipótese levantada é verdadeira, pois os direcionadores utilizados pelos agricultores em questão os conduzem ao favorecimentos da competitividade da produção e comercialização da leguminosa. Todavia, essa competitividade, de acordo com a metodologia de Van Duren et al. (1991), foi considerada muito baixa, próxima à neutralidade.
