Resumo: | This thesis addresses the violence of the photographic act. Guided by a theoretical construct of Visual Culture, the research is developed from the author's experience in photographing alleged criminals in police stations in the city of Uberlândia (2002-2005). It highlights the violence of the photojournalist in his antipersonification and his passivity in relation to the violence against the other. In addition, it presents the development of a photojournalism with a strong social bias that contrasts with the panoptic system. Photojournalism is also approached contextually among other forms of violence that have the city as a stage. That is, they are considered the "states of violence" and the "mechanisms" of her production mediated by the newspaper. To conclude, the images produced and censored in the context of journalism (and used as the source of this research) migrate to another space - the art museum - in which they gain new interpretations and suggest more open paths. When transposed to other spaces, the photographs generate new and emancipating meanings: for the photographer and for the dissemination and reflection of the images of violence. |

Orientada por um constructo teórico da Cultura Visual, a pesquisa desenvolve-se a partir da experiência do autor em fotografar supostos criminosos em delegacias de polícia na cidade de Uberlândia (2002-2005). Ela destaca a violência do fotojornalista em seu assujeitamento e na sua passividade em relação à violência contra o outro. Ademais, apresenta o desenvolvimento de um fotojornalismo com forte viés social que se contrapõe ao sistema panóptico. O fotojornalismo também é abordado contextualmente entre outras diversas formas de violências que têm a cidade como palco. Ou seja, são considerados os “estados de violência” e os “mecanismos” de produção dela mediados pelo jornal. De modo a concluir, as imagens produzidas e censuradas no contexto do jornalismo (e utilizadas como fonte desta pesquisa) migram para outro espaço – o museu de arte – no qual ganham novas interpretações e sugerem caminhos mais abertos.
