Resumo: This text, which integrates the Dossier commemorating Paulo Freire’s centenary, highlights the presence of this educator in the state of Goiás, is organized into two temporal sections. The first focuses on the 60s, before the 1964 military coup, when Freire held a national debate and came to Goiânia to publicize his experiences on adult literacy which showed his conceptions about education. The second focuses on the post-exile period, with Freire's participation, in 1980, in the III National Meeting of Supervisors, and in 1988, when he was awarded the title of honorary doctor proposed by the Faculty of Education at UFG. From the analysis of the documents, as well as the testimonies of people who followed these events, we can see that the presence of Paulo Freire in Goiás was fundamental for the debate on a liberating and democratic education in these two moments in history. PFreire has left a significant mark on education in Goiás, Brazil and other countries, this recognition is consolidated in several places, which makes him even more the patron of Brazilian education. El primero se centra en los años 60, antes del golpe militar de 1964, cuando Freire realizó un debate nacional, y llegó a Goiânia para dar a conocer sus experiencias con la alfabetización popular, lo que evidenciaba sus concepciones sobre la educación. El segundo se centra en el período post-exilio, con la participación de Freire, en 1980, en el III Encuentro Nacional de Supervisores, y en 1988, cuando se le otorgó el título de Doctor Honoris Causa propuesto por la Facultad de Educación de la UFG. Del análisis de documentos, así como de los testimonios de las personas que siguieron estos hechos, se puede ver que la presencia de Paulo Freire en Goiás fue fundamental para el debate sobre una educación liberadora y democrática en estos dos momentos de la historia. Freire marcó un importante encuentro con la educación en Goiás, Brasil y otros países, este reconocimiento se consolida en varios lugares, lo que lo convierte aún más en el mecenas de la educación brasileña. O primeiro foca nos anos 60, antes do golpe militar de 1964, quando Freire realizou um debate nacional e veio a Goiânia para divulgar as experiências com alfabetização popular, que evidenciaram as suas concepções acerca da educação. O segundo foca no período pós-exílio, com a participação de Freire, em 1980, no III Encontro Nacional de Supervisores, e em 1988, quando ele recebeu a concessão do título de Doutor Honoris Causa proposto pela Faculdade de Educação da UFG. A partir da análise de documentos, assim como dos depoimentos de pessoas que acompanharam esses acontecimentos, podemos constatar que a presença de Paulo Freire em Goiás foi fundamental para o debate de uma educação libertadora e democrática nesses dois momentos da história. Freire marcou um importante encontro com a educação em Goiás, no Brasil e em outros países, este reconhecimento é consolidado em diversos lugares, o que o torna ainda mais o patrono da educação brasileira.
