Resumo: This text aims at giving evidence that women's participation in Brazilian sports, despite a substantial increase in the last decades, deserves to be analyzed with caution. It implies in affirming that the conditions for access and participation in sports and body practices, be it in performance sports, leisure, or school physical education are not equal between men and women in terms of the visibility given by the media, the value of prizes awarded to the winners in sports competitions, among other issues. In other words, along the history of sports in Brazil there have been differences among the incentives, the sponsorships, the visibility, the opportunities and the power relations conferred to men and women, be it in terms of participation or in sports management. KEY WORDS: women and sports – body and sports practices participation in physical activities – school physical education.

Eso significa afirmar que no son iguales las condiciones de acceso y participación de las mujeres, comparándose a los hombres, en el campo de las prácticas corporales y deportivas, sea en el deporte de rendimiento, en el ocio, en la educación física escolar, en la visibilidad conferida por los medios, en los valores de algunos premios atribuidos a los vencedores y vencedoras de competiciones deportivas, entre otras. O sea, a lo largo de la historia del deporte nacional fueron y son distintos los incentivos, los apoyos, las visibilidades, las oportunidades, las relaciones de poder, conferidos a mujeres y hombres, sea en el ámbito de la participación, sea en la gestión y administración. PALABRAS-CLAVE: mujer y deporte – prácticas corporales y deportivas – participación en actividades físicas – educación física escolar.Este texto objetiva evidenciar que a participação das mulheres no esporte brasileiro, ainda que tenha aumentado significativamente nas últimas décadas, merece ser analisada com cautela. Isso significa afirmar que não são iguais as condições de acesso e participação das mulheres, se comparado aos homens, no campo das práticas corporais e esportivas, seja no esporte de rendimento, no lazer, na educação física escolar, na visibilidade conferida pela mídia, nos valores de alguns prêmios atribuídos aos vencedores e vencedoras de competições esportivas, entre outras. Ou seja, ao longo da história do esporte nacional foram e são distintos os incentivos, os apoios, as visibilidades, as oportunidades, as relações de poder, conferidos a mulheres e homens, seja no âmbito da participação, seja na gestão e administração.
