Resumo: This research aims to reflect on the roles historically and culturally building by Capoeira and its process of dialogue with the phenomenon of sport. It is a qualitative approach based on a literature review in the light of sport sociology. Discussions of sport were configured in two contexts: high performance and sport as a leisure activity. Capoeira is linked to sport in an attempt to eliminate the marginalized profile, establish a nationalist perspective and social control. It is observed that the values inserted into capoeira throughout its cultural trajectory respond contrary to the attempt at homogenization and bodily alienation in its popular practice.

Es un enfoque cualitativo basado en una revisión de la literatura a la luz de la sociología del deporte. Las discusiones sobre deporte se configuraron en dos contextos: alto rendimiento y deporte como actividad de ocio. La Capoeira se vincula al deporte en un intento por eliminar el perfil marginado, establecer una perspectiva nacionalista y un control social. Se observa que los valores insertados en la capoeira a lo largo de su trayectoria cultural responden en contra del intento de homogeneización y alienación física en su práctica popular.Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo uma reflexão acerca dos papeis historicamente e culturalmente construídos pela Capoeira e seu processo de diálogo junto ao fenômeno do esporte. Trata-se de uma abordagem qualitativa baseada em revisão de literatura a luz da sociologia do esporte. As discussões do esporte se configuraram em dois contextos: de alto rendimento e esporte enquanto atividade de lazer. A Capoeira vincula-se ao esporte na tentativa de eliminar o perfil marginalizado, estabelecer um olhar nacionalista e controle social.
