Spatial analysis of the social vulnerability index in the new regional divisions of the State of Minas Gerais-Brazil

Resumo: In the last two decades, Brazil has presented economic growth and breakthroughs in the improvement of the quality of life. Yet, it is still a country of great socioeconomic contrasts. Brazilian social inequality has historical roots, from slavery to the rapid and late development of capitalism combined with an accelerated urbanization. The absence of public policies and private planning, aimed at regional development centered on the economy and social development, has generated both inter-regional and intra-regional disparities. The objective of this study is to analyze how the Social Vulnerability Index exposes municipal and regional socioeconomic differences in Minas Gerais, through spatial analysis, considering the relevance of the geographic location. Results show, through spatial analysis, that the reproduction of inequalities persists given the heterogeneity of regional development. Therefore, discussing public policies and private planning, aimed at the joint development of municipalities and regions, is a key action for regional socioeconomic improvement. Sin embargo, sigue siendo un país de grandes contrastes socioeconómicos. La desigualdad social brasileña tiene raíces históricas, desde la esclavitud hasta el desarrollo rápido y tardío del capitalismo combinado con una urbanización acelerada. La ausencia de políticas públicas y planificación privada, orientadas al desarrollo regional centrado en la economía y el desarrollo social, ha generado disparidades tanto interregionales como intrarregionales. El objetivo de este estudio es analizar cómo el Índice de Vulnerabilidad Social expone las diferencias socioeconómicas municipales y regionales en Minas Gerais, a través del análisis espacial, considerando la relevancia de la ubicación geográfica. Los resultados muestran, a través del análisis espacial, que la reproducción de las desigualdades persiste dada la heterogeneidad del desarrollo regional. Por lo tanto, discutir políticas públicas y planificación privada, encaminadas al desarrollo conjunto de municipios y regiones, es uma acción fundamental para el mejoramiento socioeconómico regional. A ausência de políticas públicas e planejamento privado, voltadas ao desenvolvimento regional centrado na economia e no desenvolvimento social, gerou disparidades tanto inter-regionais quanto intrarregionais. O objetivo deste estudo é analisar a forma como o Índice de Vulnerabilidade Social expõe as diferenças socioeconômicas municipais e regionais em Minas Gerais, por meio da análise espacial, considerando a relevância da localização geográfica. Resultados apontam, por meio da análise espacial, que a reprodução das desigualdades persiste dada a heterogeneidade do desenvolvimento regional. Portanto, discutir políticas públicas e planejamento privado, voltadas ao desenvolvimento conjunto dos municípios e regiões é uma ação fundamental para melhoria socioeconômica regional.
