Resumo: | Abstract The Brazilian market place is a peculiar experience of street sociability. A kind of urban tradition which has became old-fashioned because the diffusion of automobile and modern retail, but in struggle to survive in the urban landscape. Through the popular territoriality of market places, we aim to develop a broad thinking about some general trends of contemporary metropolis, as a holder of new form of capital accumulation and present conditions of material survival, as well cultural claim and search of citizenship exercise. Key-Words: territoriality, culture, public space, modernity .Resumen La feria libre representa una experiencia peculiar de sociabilidad y uso de la calle, una tradición urbana que por la difusión del automóvil y el moderno comercio se volvió obsoleta, pero que lucha por siguir presente en el paisaje urbano. Através de la territorialidad popular de las ferias libres, buscamos nosotros desarrollar una reflexión ampliada sobre algunas de las tendencias más generales de la metropolis contemporánea, como portadora de nuevas formas de acumulación y de sobrevivencia material, bien como de afirmación cultural y de ejercício de la ciudadania, Palabras llave: ferias libres, territorialidad, cultura, espacio público, modernidad.A feira livre representa uma experiência peculiar de sociabilidade e de uso da rua, uma tradição urbana tornada obsoleta pela expansão do automóvel e do moderno varejo, mas que luta para persistir na paisagem urbana. Através da territorialidade popular das feiras livres, buscamos desenvolver uma reflexão ampliada acerca de algumas das tendências mais gerais da metrópole contemporânea, portadora das novas formas de acumulação e de condições de sobrevivência material, de afirmação cultural e de busca do exercício da cidadania.
