GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM APPLIED TO SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF LAND USE CAPABILITY

Resumo: | This research aimed to study land use capability classes in Pratânia, São Paulo State, Brazil, by using the Geographic Information System (GIS), in order to find out the appropriate planning system for soil use. The watershed covers an area of 21,773.61 ha and is located among the coordinates 22o44’48”S and 22o52’17”S and 48o38’21”W and 48o48’07”W. The land use capability map was made from the slope and soil maps, based on the features of each kind of soil and the land use capability table for class assessment. It was possible to conclude that IIIs was the most significant subclass. Slope classes from 0% to 20% were present in more than 97% of Pratânia, being the plane areas the most representative ones (55%). GIS showed to be an excellent tool for determining land use capability, because the geoprocessing use facilitates and activates the digital data crossing, allowing its storage for future environmental planning. Este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar as classes de capacidade de uso das terras do município de Pratânia (SP), por meio do Sistema de Informação Geográfica, visando ao planejamento adequado do uso do solo. A bacia situa-se entre as coordenadas 22º44’48” e 22º52’17” de latitudes Sul e 48º38’21” e 48º48’07” de longitudes Oeste, apresentando uma área de 21.773,61 ha. A carta de capacidade de uso da terra foi elaborada a partir dos mapas de classes de declive e de solo, tomando-se, por base, as características de cada solo e utilizando-se a tabela de julgamento de classes de capacidade de uso. Os resultados permitiram inferir que a subclasse mais significativa foi a IIIs. As classes de declive de 0-20% ocorrem em mais de 97% do Município, sendo as áreas planas as mais representativas (55%). O SIG mostrou-se uma excelente ferramenta para determinação da capacidade de uso da terra, pois a utilização do geoprocessamento facilita e agiliza o cruzamento de dados digitais, permitindo seu armazenamento para futuros planejamentos ambientais.
