AGRICULTURAL LABOR IN GOIÁS

Resumo: The study comprises an effort to set up estimation of labor power demanded in a set of agricultural activities, related to crop systems and sazonality. It is based on empirical data collected from the extension official service and direct information from farmers in all agricultural regions of the Goiás State. An analysis of secondary data from IBGE indicated regions of relevance in area and production of main crops and data files were created for crop patterns and labor usage, by region and estimations, proceeded using a software developed by Fundação Seade, in Campinas, São Paulo. The results show strong declines, over time, both in supply and demand for labor in agriculture in the studied area. Corn and soybeans seem to be the basis for labor absorption and so is sugar cane for their area extension, showing evidences of low diversity of agricultural activities in the State. Este trabalho procura estimar a demanda e a geração de emprego num conjunto de atividades agrícolas, fundamentadas em coeficientes técnicos de absorção de mão-de-obra por operação de cultivo, por cultura e calendários agrícolas. Baseia-se em dados empíricos, coletados junto ao serviço de extensão oficial (Emater-GO), além de informações colhidas diretamente dos agricultores, em todas as regiões agrícolas de Goiás, agrupadas segundo as microrregiões homogêneas (MRH) do IBGE. Uma análise de dados secundários do IBGE indicou municípios e cultivos de relevância, enquanto planilhas relativas à cultura e ao uso de mão-de-obra, por município, foram elaboradas, o que permitiu estimativas do estudo, com a utilização de um software desenvolvido pela Fundação Seade, de Campinas (SP). Os resultados evidenciam declínios importantes, através dos anos, tanto em oferta como em demanda por mão-de-obra na agricultura, nas áreas estudadas. Os cultivos de milho, soja e cana-de-açúcar absorvem a maior parte da mão-de-obra empregada, devido ao resultado da extensão das áreas sob plantio, e evidenciam a limitada diversidade das atividades agrícolas no Estado.
