Resumo: Based on the idea that the dramatic text can be a vehicle for symbolism, the present study verifies how the play O Paradise Perdido, by Teatro da Vertigem, evokes poetic meanings in the indications it suggests for the performance. To this end, this study is based on Paul Zumthor's ideas about performance and the works of Bachelard, Durand and other imaginary researchers, investigating what symbols are conveyed by the play and how performance constructs and communicates symbols specific to poetic language.

Para ello, este estudio se basa en las ideas de Paul Zumthor sobre performance y en los trabajos de Bachelard, Durand y otros estudiosos del imaginario, investigando cuáles son los símbolos vehiculados por la pieza y cómo la performance construye y comunica símbolos propios del lenguaje poético.A partir da ideia de que o texto dramático pode ser veículo de uma simbologia, o presente estudo verifica de que maneira a peça O paraíso perdido, do Teatro da Vertigem, evoca sentidos poéticos nas indicações que sugere para a performance.
