The discipline of Brazilian Sign Language in the education of future teacher: a study on drawbacks and learning strategies

Resumo: This paper discusses the difficulties undergraduate students face in learning Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and the strategies they use to learn it. Data were collected through a questionnaire that was applied to 91 students from undergraduate courses at the Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG). As a result, this research shows that the great amount of difficulties students face in the Libras learning process is related to the scanty contact with the language, the linguistic modality, and the memorization of the signs. It also shows that the main learning strategies used were the use of videos, explanations from the teacher, repetition, and mobile applications.

La investigación se realizó com 91 estudiantes de la asignatura de Libras em cursos de grado en la Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG). Como resultado, la investigación muestra que las mayores dificultates para los estudiantes en el processo de aprendizaje de Libras son la falta de contacto com el idioma, la modalidad linguística y la memorización de los signos. También muestra que las principales estratégias para el aprendizaje fueron el uso de vídeos y aplicaciones móviles, explicaciones del maestro y repetición.Este artigo discute sobre as dificuldades que alunos de licenciatura encontram para aprender a língua brasileira de sinais (Libras) e, também, as estratégias utilizadas por eles durante a aprendizagem dessa língua. Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionário submetido a 91 alunos de Libras em cursos de licenciatura na Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG). Como resultado, esta pesquisa mostra que as maiores dificuldades estão no pouco contato com a língua, a modalidade linguística e a memorização dos sinais.
