Resumo:     A chronological tracing of the contribution of linguistics to literary theory, in particular to its terminology and methods: in Russian Formalism, in the Prague Linguistic Circle, in the Copenhagen Linguistic Circle, and in Structuralism. The contributions of anthropology and of psychoanalysis are noted, stressing the interdisciplinary aspect of literary theory. The study sees the theory of language as a product of the human mind, starting as well as end point of both linguistics and literary theory.
