Resumo: This work aimed to evaluate section lengths and total heights for volumetric quantification of eucalypt stems at different planting spacings. Volumes stem were calculated using Smalian formula, considering 1, 2, ..., 6 m in length after position of 2 m height. Cubage positons of the base were standardized on all stems. Modeling was carried out to percentage errors estimate as a function of section length and stem height. Error estimates were larger in longer section and smaller stems in total height. It is concluded that longest lengths lead to overestimates of volume above the 2 m height position and, consequently, of total stem volume. Sections longer than 2 m should be avoided in rigorous cubing, especially when carried out in stands installed with spacing of 1.5 to 6 m2.

Os volumes dos fustes com casca foram calculados utilizando-se a fórmula de Smalian, considerando seções de 1, 2, ..., 6 m de comprimento após a posição de 2 m de altura. As posições de cubagem da base foram padronizadas. Realizou-se a modelagem para a estimativa dos erros percentuais em função do comprimento de seção e altura de fustes. As estimativas de erro foram maiores em seções mais longas e fustes de menor altura total. Conclui-se que seções mais longas levam a superestimativas do volume acima da posição de 2 m de altura e, consequentemente, do volume total do fuste.
