Resumo: Intending to be in touch with previous translations from the Greek and Latin legacy for the Portuguese language and exploring issues related to the context of reception, this article presents some specificities in the translation of the The Art of Poetry by Horace, performed by D. Leonor de Almeida, also known as Marquise of Alorna, published in 1812. Paying special attention for the literature of this period, which emphasizes the precepts defended by Horace, as brevity and clarity, and how this translation reflects the poetry of this age.
