Resumo: Our aim was to research if there might have been uses of quaero that would justify the expression of volition by its morphological successor “querer”. To that end, we will analyse morphosyntactically the occurrences of quaero in the work of Cicero, Ad Atticum, based on functional theory, in order to compare this research to the analysis on uolo. We intend, thus, in the following stages, to draw up potential phrasal contexts that might have provided competition between these verbs in the expression of volition and the extinction of uolo, in the passage from Latin to Portuguese and to Spanish.

Para isso, analisaremos morfossintaticamente as ocorrências de quaero na obra de Cícero, Ad Atticum, a partir da teoria funcionalista, a fim de comparar essa pesquisa à análise sobre uolo.
