The Mouthbreathing Syndrome is a somatory of characteristics that affect the subjects that presents mouth breathing (MB). Knowing the prevalence of this condition in the population helps to take preventive and curative attitudes from the governmental health area. The cross sectional study was conducted in Juiz de For a city (Minas Gerais), analyzing 649 schoolchildren from 6 to 12 years old. After duly authorized to participate in the study, were submitted to dental and speech evaluation. The prevalence of mouth breathing in the sample was 59.5%. The variables associated with the detection of MB were: male sexy, and posture of tongue. The MB increased the frequency of findings like: sleeping rough, swallowing during the night, hypertrophic gingiva and anterior open bite. Multiple fields of health’s child are involved in the Mouthbreathing Syndrome, requiring the timely multiprofessional intervention to its detection and correction.
