Resumo: The right to life, granted in the federal constitution, must be thoroughly respected, regardless of diverging opinions concerning its initial milestone. It must not be forgotten that life is the greatest good we have. Because scientific breakthroughs have promised to meet long-nurtured treatment expectations, it is only fair that embryonic research becomes the subject of serious legislation. Yet, it cannot be denied that such practices suffer influence from conflicting beliefs and platforms. Being an innovation, embryonic manipulation is both, fraught with doubts and full of hope. The situation calls for bioethics as a tool to provide moral guidance for science and the applications from stem-cell research. Embryonic manipulation can only survive if issues are constantly addressed, not only through a scientific approach but also through a societal one. If the federal constitution is to be obeyed, human dignity must be valued. Bioethics is paramount for this goal to be reached.

Nunca se deve olvidar de que a vida é o maior bem que nos cerca. Considerando essa prerrogativa e frente ao avanço científico evidente e irremediável, o caminho viável foi o da regulamentação séria da pesquisa com embriões, para que a procura por tratamentos tão esperados e prometidos pelos cientistas seja realizada efetivamente e os seus resultados oferecidos a todos aqueles que desejam e necessitam de tais inovações. Contudo, é inegável o impacto desta pesquisa num contexto social que abrange crenças diversas e posicionamentos conflitantes. E, sendo a técnica de manipulação de embriões uma inovação, traz consigo todas as dúvidas e esperanças inerentes àquilo que é novo. Sendo assim, diante de questões tão controversas como a utilização de embriões humanos, a bioética é o instrumento apto a balizar a ciência e as condutas provenientes das pesquisas com células tronco. Nortear questões, repensando constantemente as práticas científicas, reformulando os modelos pertencentes não só à ciência, mas à sociedade é indispensável para a sobrevivência da prática de manipulação de embriões.
