Resumo: This present work analizes the distribution of obesity and overweight of students from the public schools from Juiz de Fora, MG, aiming to get information which can help some prevention strategies for the studied group. An Antropometric measurements evaluation and a survey were held to 480 students. The data was analyed using the  EPI-INFO program, version 3.3.2. The age average of the studied population was of 10 years, while 50.4% of the individuals were female and 16.6% were classified as obese and overweight. Different preparations in the school food were verified in the school menus. It was shown that they were rich in carboydrates and sugar, but with a nutritional deficit.  This research made it possible to beter classify the studied population, and also to focus on the racional use of time and public financial resources, proving the necessity of investing in eating education and in prevention strategies to help  students' health problems e the same time turn it into a eating habit improvement.

Para isto, foram realizadas avaliação antropométrica e aplicação de questionário alimentar em 480 alunos. Os dados foram analisados através do programa EPI-INFO, versão 3.3.2. A média de idade da população estudada foi de 10 anos, sendo que 50,4% dos indivíduos pertenciam ao sexo feminino e 16,6% foram classificados como obesos ou com sobrepeso. A avaliação dos cardápios constatou preparações diferentes na merenda escolar, porém ricas em carboidratos e açúcares, mas com déficit nutricional. Essa pesquisa possibilitou melhor caracterização da população em estudo, podendo instruir a priorização e racionalização de uso de tempo e recursos financeiros públicos, comprovando-se a necessidade de investir na educação alimentar e em estratégicas de prevenção de saúde dos escolares, para que bons hábitos virem rotina.
