Resumo: The objective of this work was to study the distribution of the natural regeneration of three gallery forest species under four site conditions in a gallery forest. The forest is located in Fazenda Água Limpa, Distrito Federal, Brazil. The species were Roupala montana, a common species between gallery forest and cerrado, Piptocarpha macropoda, a long lived pioneer species and Persea fusca, a shade tolerant species. They are native in Gama forest. Site conditions within the forest were: Forest-savanna edge, closed canopy, steambank and gap. Ten 10x20m strip were established in each of the three site condition. Each strip was subdivided in 5 x 5 m plots. In each plot, all individuals up to 1 m high were recorded. The gaps were small, therefore, only one plot was located under each of them. There was a significant difference in the distribution of individuals of the same species in each of the three site conditions according to the Komogorov-Smirnov test. Species distribution was also different even though they were in the same condition suggesting that there are gradients in the forest, probably humidity and light. The results indicated that Persea fusca needs shade for better development, Roupala montana germinates in any place but grows better on the edge with campo limpo. Piptocarpha macropoda showed a pioneer behaviour.

Piptocarpha macropoda showed a pioneer behaviour.O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar o comportamento da regeneração natural de três espécies de mata de galeria sob diferentes condições de campo. O trabalho foi executado na mata do Gama localizada na Reserva Ecológica da Fazenda Água Limpa, da Universidade de Brasília. As linhas de amostragem para o estudo da regeneração foram alocadas em quatro condições ambientais na mata, sendo estas borda de mata, dossel fechado, beira de rio e clareira. As espécies Roupala montana, Piptocarpha macropoda e Persea fusca foram selecionadas com base na sua frequência em tais espaços e nas características inferidas em estudos prévios na comunidade. O limite máximo de altura estabelecido foi de 1 m. Em cada uma das três primeiras condições foram estabelecidas 10 faixas de 10 x 20 m subdivididas em parcelas de 5 x 5 m. Nas três clareiras, devido aos seus tamanhos, foi alocada apenas uma parcela de 5 x 5 m em cada uma. Houve diferença significativa na distribuição de indivíduos de uma mesma espécie em cada uma das três condições (borda de mata, borda de rio e dossel fechado) pelo teste de Kolmogorov-Smirnov. Foi significativa, também, a diferença entre populações de espécies diferentes nas mesmas condições. Os resultados confirmam as sugestões de alguns autores de que umidade e luz são importantes determinantes na distribuição das populações de mata de galeria.
