A coleta de dados primários ocorreu por meio de entrevistas realizadas com famílias de três comunidades rurais localizadas nos municípios de Carbonita, Chapada do Norte e Virgem da Lapa. Contatou-se que a estrutura de ativos disponíveis para as famílias agricultoras e que pode ser mobilizada para a satisfação de suas necessidades tende a variar ao longo do ano, e está associada às variações do ciclo produtivo. Isso exige das famílias a elaboração de diferentes estratégias que envolvem os membros do domicílio, a comunidade e agentes externos a estas esferas. Na comunidade, o parentesco e os laços de solidariedade permitem que os membros dos domicílios mais vulneráveis possam se apoiar naqueles menos vulneráveis, geralmente com aposentados, que por terem renda certa, conferem estabilidade ao grupo. No mercado, junto aos comerciantes locais, observou-se que as famílias procuram cultivar relações que não se encerram em trocas mercantis, mas se apóiam em símbolos e acordos construídos a partir do interconhecimento entre os agentes e que garantem regularidade ao abastecimento mesmo nos momentos em que não dispõem de dinheiro. Concluise que até nos períodos em que se encontram mais dependentes do mercado para o abastecimento, as famílias se cerceiam com e mobilizam outros recursos, demonstrando que a falta de liquidez nem sempre exerce um impacto imediato sobre as condições de reprodução das famílias.This study has as an objective to know how farming families of the Alto Jequitinhonha, northeast of Minas Gerais, generate their resources and elaborate strategies seeking the satisfaction of their needs. The primary data was collected through interviews done with three rural community families located in the municipal districts of Carbonita, Chapada do Norte and Virgem da Lapa. It was clearly shown that structure of available assets for the farming family and which can be mobilized for the satisfaction of their needs tends to vary along the year, and it is associated to the variations of the productive cycle. This demands of the families the elaboration of different strategies that involve the members of the home, the community and agents outside of these spheres. In the community, kinship and solidarity ties allow the members of the most vulnerable homes to lean on those less vulnerable, usually retired who, for having a certain income, confer stability to the group. In the market, together with the local merchants, it was observed that the families try to cultivate relationships that do not end up in mercantile exchanges, but which are supported by symbols and agreements built starting from the mutual knowledge among the agents and which guarantee the regularity of provision even at times when they do not have money.
