The concept of process management have been receiving more attention of managers nowadays. In the public administration, the definition, automation, and continuous process improvement, is already able of result in a better and more especialized services to the citizen. Using the Business Process Management (BPM) methodologies it’s possible to identify, design, monitor, measure and improve processes, ensuring key benefits to organizations. This study presents a implementing BPM on one of the management processes of the Federal University of Lavras: the process of legal proceedings. The development follows a continuous cycle of activities where, after the implementation phase of the BPM solution, is given control of the process as a form of continuous improvement where redesigns may be necessary in order to ensure the performance of automated business management systems. Difficulties were encountered in the process development, however, this is a pilot project of process management, and results were considered beneficial for the maturity of the university administration, besides contributing to the upgrade of an existing process to a more objective, transparent, integrated and computerized.
