Resumo: | This dissertation aimed to analyze the literary production of writer Raul Astolfo Marques from the perspective of decoloniality, to promote a discussion about the idea of freedom through the denunciations published in periodicals and in the novel A Nova Aurora (1913). Therefore, the research has a qualitative nature, based initially on the selection and analysis of works of Brazilian literature published in the time frame of 1888-1918, especially from authors who stood out in prose, addressing the emancipated blacks in the post-abolition period, to visualize the presence of transgressions against the authoritarian view of power that established itself as an absolute truth in history. In addition to problematizing the writing of the Maranhão author Raul Astolfo Marques by observing his denunciations of the persistence of slavery under new terms after the Lei Áurea, as well as his strategies to enable criticism of the social through literature. The theoretical foundation is based on scholars such as Quijano (2005, 2010), Castro- Gomés and Grosfoguel (2007), Lugones (2008, 2014), Grosfoguel (2016, 2020), Maldonado- Torres (2016), and Mignolo (2017, 2020, 2021) to address decolonial approaches and colonialities; Nascimento (1976), Gonzalez (1983, 2008, 2020), Nogueira (1998), Carneiro (2003, 2011), Castilho (2004), Segato (2012), Alvarez (2012), Castro (2020), Hollanda (2020), and Santos (2021) to underpin analyses on racism and sexism. Additionally, Candido (2006) is used to analyze possible associations between literature and society; Costa (1999, 2008) to present a historical perspective on post-abolition; Martins (2004), Lobo (2016), Carvalho (2021), Matos (2021), and Jesus (2010, 2012, 2015), who provide a framework on Maranhão literature, especially on the author Raul Astolfo Marques; in addition to revisiting periodicals from 20th-century Maranhão press such as Pacotilha, Boletim dos Novos, and O Jornal. Through the analysis implemented in this work, it was possible to carry out a survey and compilation of Marques's tales, including the discovery of two unpublished texts, and to consider that the author, faced with the context of social freedom at the beginning of the 20th century, used his writing to unveil, from the perspective of the people of Maranhão, the other side of history silenced and hidden due to the colonial logic of power. |

Submitted by Jonathan Sousa de Almeida (jonathan.sousa@ufma.br) on 2024-06-26T16:35:48Z No. of bitstreams: 1 GARDÊNIASOUSASILVAQUEIROS.pdf: 1304545 bytes, checksum: 9c5175ef7ca1dac834f4903f3c226962 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2024-06-26T16:35:48Z (GMT).
