Resumo: Introduction: The diagnosis of type 1 diabetes mellitus interferes with biological, psychological, social and spiritual aspects, with treatment based on insulin applications, changes in habits and glycemic control. The basic human needs of people with this chronic condition can be fully evaluated in nursing consultations, favoring care strategies for self-management of the disease and improvement of quality of life. Objective: To analyze the evidence of content validity of an instrument to be used in the nursing consultations for people with type 1 diabetes mellitus constructed in the light of the theory of basic human needs. Method: This is a methodological study with a quantitative approach of construction and validation of the content of an instrument to be used in nursing consultations for people with type 1 diabetes mellitus. This study was carried out in three stages: 1 – Integrative literature review, 2 - Construction of the instrument based on Wanda Horta's Theory of Basic Human Needs (initial version with 06 dimensions and 51 items) and 3 – Content validation using the Delphi technique, in two rounds of evaluation by experts (masters and PhD), considering valid the items that obtain Content Validity Index greater than 0.85 and consensus among experts greater than 80%. It was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the Federal University of Maranhão under Opinion number 3000818. Results: All items of the instrument reached statistically significant evaluation levels and mean agreement among judges of 92.3%. The instrument had its content validated with a content validity index of 0.96. In the initial version of the instrument, the item 5 (content validity index of 0.8) was changed and the dimension 3 was deleted after analysis of suggestions. The other items had content validity index values greater than 0.85, but there still pertinent suggestions about them that were considered for validation. Of the total, 06 items were validated in the initial form (item 01, 02, 03, 04, 36 and 49). In the second round, the instrument had an overall content validity index of 0.99. The items were evaluated for clarity, coherence and relevance with mean content validity index values of 0.99, 1.0 and 1.0, respectively. The final version of the instrument has 5 dimensions and 45 validated items. Conclusion: The use of instruments specifically validated to the nursing consultations for people with type 1 diabetes mellitus contributes to guide decision-making as well as to define interventions necessary for the establishment of actions that contribute to self-care and adequate glycemic control.

A versão final do instrumento possui 5 dimensões e 45 itens validados. Submitted by Daniella Santos (daniella.santos@ufma.br) on 2023-06-06T17:34:50Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Samara_Sales_G_de_Sousa_.pdf: 357520 bytes, checksum: e9e1753daa6125e1676d300a44fc762a (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2023-06-06T17:34:50Z (GMT).
