Resumo: | The purpose of this work is to analyze the nature of the relations of power established among the social agents who interacted within the framework of the Piauí’s Artificer Casa de Educandos, namely, students, directors, teachers, workshop masters, etc. The bias of the educational practices of that establishment (education, work, military and religious discipline, hygiene policy) seeks to examine the nature of these relationships, the patterns that guided them, as well as their quality and implications for the lives of the subjects involved in the process of provincial civilization. In order to understand the sociocultural, political and ideological motivations behind the educational practices implemented in the Piauí’s Casa dos Educandos, we aim to study the daily life of children admitted to that institution of elementary and vocational education in the period among 1849 to 1873 and to problematize the relations of power there instituted. Thus, through documentary and bibliographic research based on subsidies provided by the reports of provincial presidents and other official and unofficial sources, such as, offices and correspondence between local authorities, code of conduct, regulations, educational legislation, periodicals, etc., as well as in the theoretical framework of authors such as Michel de Certeau (2014), Erving Goffman (2015), José Gonçalves Gondra (2008) and others, we will try to present in this exhibition a glimpse of the main organizing forces of public education in the province of the 19 th century Piauí, as well as of the Casa dos Educandos as a place of disciplinary power and place of production of certain practices whose purpose was to civilize through the education of individuals marginalized by the local elite. |

Procurando compreender as motivações socioculturais, políticas e ideológicas por trás das práticas educativas implantadas na Casa de educandos do Piauí, objetivamos estudar o cotidiano das crianças admitidas naquela instituição de ensino elementar e profissionalizante no período compreendido entre 1849 a 1873 e problematizar a as relações de poder ali instituídas.
