Geometry in Gilvan Samico’s engravings: between technique and narrative, the rationalization of the mythic space

Resumo: | The present text aims to explain how the use of geometrical shapes, that occurred in the works of Gilvan Samico, has interfered with the construction of the images’ space, seeking to understand some of the meanings that the woodcuts can take from that transformation onwards. To that end, the images are comparatively analyzed, considering their relationship with words and memory, their cultural traits and their temporality. Conceiving the power of the image as an object that awakens stories and memories, what is inherent to the engravings is placed in parallel with the construction of a rational mathematical thought in art. Samico’s work is marked by the survival of memory images, that is transversal in techniques, themes and form. |

Para eso, se analizan las imágenes comparativamente, considerando sus relaciones con la palabra y la memoria, sus rasgos culturales y su dimensión temporal. Al concebir el poder de las imágenes, como un objeto que despierta historias y recuerdos, lo que es inherente a los grabados se coloca en paralelo con la construcción de un pensamiento matemático y racional del arte. La obra de Samico está marcada por la supervivencia de las imágenes de la memoria, y presenta una naturaleza transversal en la técnica, en los temas y en la forma.O presente texto tem como objetivo explicar como o processo de geometrização, que ocorreu na obra de Gilvan Samico, interferiu na construção do espaço das imagens, procurando compreender alguns significados que elas podem assumir a partir dessa transformação. Para isso as gravuras são analisadas comparativamente, considerando suas relações com a palavra e a memória, seus traços culturais e sua dimensão temporal. Concebendo a potência da imagem, enquanto objeto que desperta histórias e lembranças, o que é inerente às gravuras é colocado em paralelo com a construção de um pensamento matemático racional na arte.
