From the problem of space to criticism of representation: approaches between Carl Einstein and Antonin Artaud

Resumo: By tracing a constellation between the works of Carl Einstein and Antonin Artaud, this work aims to understand the criticism of the link between space and representation in Western culture. Starting from Einstein's texts on Cubism and African sculpture and Artaud's reflections on the Theater of Cruelty and Mexican indigenous culture, we seek to reconstitute, in both works, a reflection that, when approaching the problem of space in Western culture, constitutes a critical problematization of representation as a structuring paradigm of knowledge and sensorial and cultural experience in European societies. This development allowed them to think about new ways of representing life and the world, in their dynamism, depth and complexity, neglected by the frontality and pictoriality that characterize representation.

Este desarrollo les permitió pensar en nuevas formas de representar la vida y el mundo, en su dinamismo, profundidad y complejidad, descuidadas por la frontalidad y pictorialidad que caracterizan la representación.Ao traçar uma constelação entre as obras de Carl Einstein e Antonin Artaud, este trabalho pretende compreender a crítica à vinculação entre espaço e representação na cultura ocidental. Partindo dos textos einsteinianos sobre o Cubismo e a escultura africana e das reflexões de Artaud acerca do Teatro da Crueldade e da cultura indígena mexicana, buscamos reconstituir, em ambas as obras, uma reflexão que, ao acercar-se do problema do espaço na cultura ocidental, constitui uma problematização crítica à representação como paradigma estruturador do saber e da experiência sensorial e cultural das sociedades europeias.
