The appearance of patrimonialization in Brazil and its practices are debated, from the selection of what to fall to innovative protective actions in favor of its preservation. Discussion carried out based on the listed heritage in the center of Goiânia, specifically, the Grande Hotel building, one of the first Deco works built as an expression of an ideal of modernity, protected by federal listing in 2003. With the decline of its original use it remains a clear dichotomy between what the State intends for the building and what objectively happens around it. Condition that opens the questioning about the activities carried out inside and in the environment. The correct actions for their perception as cultural assets? How is this space seen today? Through a prospective study, the forms of appropriation of the building, proposed by heritage management bodies and the cultural movements that appropriate the spaces around it, are identified. The established paradox is discussed: between the apparent freezing of the building in relation to the potential for use. Explanation made from newspapers and works that focus on the building and its transformations over time, also using the Heritage Listing Process of the collection in the city.
