Resumo: The objective of the present paper is to investigate importance of the mythical language in Portnoy’s Complaint, by Philip Roth. The theoretical framework used is composed by Odo Marquard’s critique of the myth and Roland Barthes’ theory of myth. The hypothesis is that the impulsion to perversion that Alexander Portnoy suffers is related to the question of significant’s positioning inside the mythical language structure.
