Resumo: Being considered as one of the most important writers in the field of North-American Jewish literature, Cynthia Ozickis constantly aiming to achieve universality in her books, even when it comes to more specific themes, such as the Shoah (Jewish Holocaust). In The Shawl (1989), the genocide is represented by complex characters and confused memories, which produce a narrative full of symbols and intriguing images. The objective of the current paper is to pass by Ozick’s work, as well as to focus on the study of The Shawl and its contribution to the analysis of the Shoah.

Em The Shawl (1989), o genocídio é retratado por meio de personagens complexos e de memórias confusas, que compõem uma narrativa cheia de símbolos e imagens intrigantes.
