Smart destination and the tourist experience: : case of a cultural and heritage destination in the Northeast of Brazil

Resumo: The tourism experience has become one of the largest measurement thermometers in a tourist destination. With the experience of the visitor, it is possible to understand how the tourism has promoted positive impacts on the perception of the tourist about the products and services offered. In this way, smart destinations use as a premise the identification of this experience and its measurement as a way to be in permanent monitoring of the tourist with the purpose of analyzing the data and information so that it is constantly updated and to remain competitive in the national context and International. Therefore, the objective is to understand the tourists' perception of their experience during their stay in the city of São Luís (Maranhão, Brazil) regarding tourism. As a methodological basis was used bibliographic material collected in the main databases, and also the indications of the Spanish project to which this work is the result. As for the character is descriptive and exploratory, and it is also characterized as empirical, where the questionnaire based on the guidelines of the Spanish project was applied in the field between January and April 2017. The analysis was qualitative with the use of SPSS software. The results indicate that the interviewees perceive the high patrimonial value existing in the historical constructions present in the city center, as well as they identify that São Luís as capital and inductive destination in the state of Maranhão has good infrastructure in certain aspects regarding the pillars of an intelligent tourist destination . As for the tourism experience, they pointed out that it is good, and therefore, it is concluded that it is fundamental to apply public and private guidelines in São Luís so that the destination is increasingly prepared to meet and exceed the expectations of the visitor and also according to the conceptual guidelines for the development and evolution of the destination, focusing on a model of intelligent tourism destination.

Desta forma, destinos turísticos inteligentes utilizam como premissa a identificação desta experiência e sua medição como forma de estar em permanente monitoramento do turista com fim a analisar os dados e informações para que o mesmo esteja em constante atualização e manter-se competitivo no contexto nacional e internacional. Portanto, objetiva-se no presente trabalho compreender a percepção dos turistas quanto à sua experiência durante sua estadia na cidade de São Luís (Maranhão) quanto à oferta turística. Como base metodológica utilizou-se material bibliográfico coletado nas principais bases de dados, e também das indicações do projeto espanhol ao qual este trabalho é resultado. Quanto ao caráter é descritivo e exploratório, e a caracteriza-se também como empírico, onde aplicou-se no campo entre os meses de janeiro a abril de 2017 o questionário com base nas orientações do projeto espanhol. A análise foi qualitativa com o uso de software SPSS. Os resultados apontam que os entrevistados percebem o alto valor patrimonial existente nas construções históricas presente no centro da cidade, assim como identificam que São Luís enquanto capital e destino indutor no estado do Maranhão possui boa infraestrutura em determinados aspectos quanto aos pilares de um destino turístico inteligente.
