Resumo: This study seeks to analyze and counteract the different modes of development of Ócio Studies (of Latin American origin) and Leisure Studies (from an essentially Anglo-Saxon background). Following the seminal work of Doistua (2006), we will discuss the main differences and similarities, whether conceptual or epistemological and methodological, among both scientific paradigms, as constituted since the late nineteenth century until today. At the end of this study, we question, in line with Inchaurraga (2012), the concept of leisure / recreation, in conjunction with the concept of work in the light of a weak reason as opposed to a strong reason as it is conceptualized by Vattimo. As a result of this journey, it is our goal to introduce the debate on leisure / ócio studies a political dimension, which seems to be absolutely essential for the further development of this theme as it appears in postmodernity, but that has been till now almost absent in investigations and reflections on this area of knowledge.
