Resumo: This article aims to focus on the history of the creation of the former Agricultural School located in the city of Rio Pomba / MG, now the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology, and the relationship that this institution established with sports and leisure. The sources for this research were printed newspapers, mainly the Jornal Imparcial. The period analyzed was from 1962 (founding of the school) to 1969. It was observed in the news published in the newspapers the concern with sport and leisure were already evident from the foundation of the school going through the bias of the structure and local planning. It is understood that in this area the school developed and established links with the society riopombense through sports and leisure.

It is understood that in this area the school developed and established links with the society riopombense through sports and leisure.Este artículo tiene por objetivo focalizar la historia de la creación de la antigua Escuela Agrícola situada en la ciudad de Rio Pomba / MG, actual Instituto Federal de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología, y la relación que esta institución establecía con el deporte y el ocio. Las fuentes para esta investigación fueron los periódicos impresos, principalmente el Jornal Imparcial. El período analizado fue de 1962 (fundación de la escuela) a 1969. Se observó en las noticias transmitidas en los periódicos la preocupación por el deporte y el ocio ya eran evidentes desde la fundación de la escuela pasando por el sesgo de la estructura y de la planificación local. Se entiende que en esta vertiente la escuela se desarrolló y estableció vínculos con la sociedad riopombense a través de prácticas deportivas y de ocio.Este artigo tem por objetivo focalizar a história da criação da antiga Escola Agrícola situada na cidade de Rio Pomba/MG, atual Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia, e a relação que esta instituição estabelecia com o esporte e o lazer. As fontes para esta pesquisa foram os jornais impressos, principalmente o jornal O Imparcial. O período analisado foi de 1962 (fundação da escola) a 1969. Observou-se nas notícias veiculadas nos jornais que a preocupação com esporte e o lazer já eram evidentes desde a fundação da escola passando pelo viés da estrutura e do planejamento local.
