Hellish Books: an analysis of Monteiro Lobato’s work through the Social Imaginary perspective.

Resumo: This article approach the theme of hellish books and their censorship processes from the imaginary perspective. The investigation has as main contribution the analysis of the Social Imaginary present in contexts of literary prohibition under the theoretical support of Maria Luiza Carneiro, Michel Foucault and Carlos Serbena. It aimed to understand the Social Imaginary during the Brazilian Dictatorship by comparing two works by the author Monteiro Lobato: Reinações de Narizinho and Peter Pan, as an antithesis to the discourse of the state ideological machine. The methodology used was Bardin's Content Analysis, constituting a qualitative research. The results showed that the censors' speeches were related to five discursive categories and it was verified that the imaginary, as a social function, is able to legitimate regimes through political speeches weighed as true by them. In parallel, the potential of children's literary reading is suggested to instill reflections and criticism in their readers.

A investigação realizada teve como aporte teórico principal os aspectos simbólicos presentes em contextos de proibição literária baseando-se em autores como Maria Luiza Carneiro (2002), Michel Foucault (1989) e Carlos Serbena (2003). Objetivou-se compreender o Imaginário Social presente durante a ditadura militar brasileira através da comparação das obras Peter Pan (1930) e Reinações de Narizinho (1931) escritas por Monteiro Lobato, em contraponto ao discurso da máquina ideológica estatal. A metodologia utilizada foi a Análise de Conteúdo, de Laurence Bardin (1979), configurando-se como uma pesquisa qualitativa. Os resultados mostraram que os discursos dos agentes censores se relacionaram, nessas obras, a cinco categorias discursivas e constatou-se que o imaginário, como função social, é capaz de legitimar regimes através de discursos políticos dados como verdadeiros por estes.
