Resumo: The paper aims to discuss the relationship between work and education throughout history in order to highlight the perpetuation of the dichotomy expressed in the current educational model, especially in vocational education, which has reproduced the division between manual and intellectual work at the base of capitalist society. In this sense, it is reaffirmed the need to build a pedagogical proposal based on the transmission of knowledge historically accumulated by humanity, articulated to the possibility of integral development of the human being. In order to do so, this paper was based on the Marxian assumption of the ontological priority exerted by the work in relation to the other complexes, which makes education dependent on it, despite its relative autonomy and reciprocal determination. The research, of a theoretical-bibliographic nature, appealed to both classic and contemporary authors, whose interpretations confer cohesion with the proposal of the reference framework: Marxism. From the investigation, it was possible to point critiques to the legitimation of the educational dichotomy through the centuries, and to point out some theoretical constructs that constitute a key point for impediment of the omnilateral human capacitation.
