Resumo: This thesis presents a discussion about the effectiveness of school management in public schools in the state of Minas Gerais, focusing on the work of the school manager, regarding the achievement of their learning and learning objectives. It proposed to investigate, in the context of the democratic and participatory school, the association between the evolution of educational results indicated by the Index of Basic Education Development (Ideb), created by the National Institute of Studies and Educational Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) and the performance of the manager , considering the management model adopted by it, its training, its abilities and competences to apply management techniques and to lead its collaborators, in order to promote the learning and contribution to the formation of the students for the society, considering the context that permeates the community in which the school is inserted.

En el contexto de la escuela democrática y participativa, la asociación entre la evolución de los resultados educativos indicados por el Índice de Desarrollo de la Educación Básica (Ideb), creado por el Instituto Nacional de Estudios e Investigaciones Educativas Anísio Teixeira (Inep) y la actuación del gestor , considerando el modelo de gestión adoptado por el mismo, su formación, sus habilidades y competencias para aplicar técnicas de gestión y para liderar a sus colaboradores, en el sentido de promover el aprendizaje y contribución a la formación de los estudiantes para la sociedad, considerando el contexto que permea la comunidad en la que se inserta la escuela.Esta tese apresenta uma discussão sobre a efetividade da gestão escolar em escolas públicas do estado de Minas Gerais, com foco no trabalho do gestor escolar, no que se refere ao alcance de seus objetivos formativos e de aprendizagem.
