The impact of Program “Science Without Borders” on vocational training and career in the perspective of the Scholarship holders from UFMG

Resumo: | This text discusses one of the dimensions explored in recent doctoral research on inequalities in educational opportunities as a phenomenon that was evidenced in the study of the social and academic profile of UFMG students of the International Mobility Program "Science Without Borders", established in 2011, by the federal government. Despite the main object of this research, the data obtained revealed several expectations of the interviewees, regarding the possible impacts of the mobility in their professional training and career. Therefore, this work has the purpose of demonstrate the different motivations underlying the option for exchange related to this feasible impact. The methodological reference for this research question was based on content analysis, through the establishment of categories that guided the qualitative study of the interviewees ' discourse. The main categories of analysis motivating the exchange for professional and career purposes: The family influence, the choice of the country and the University of destination, the establishment of networkings (social capital), the learning of foreign language for professional improvement, contact with different cultures, and also the possibility of postgraduate studies with a view to the specialization. The conclusion is that the exchange is a unique opportunity that extends beyond the anticipated pedagogical and cultural benefits. |

The conclusion is that the exchange is a unique opportunity that extends beyond the anticipated pedagogical and cultural benefits.Este texto aborda uma das dimensões exploradas em recente pesquisa de doutorado sobre as desigualdades de oportunidades educacionais como um fenômeno que se evidenciou no estudo do perfil social e acadêmico dos estudantes da UFMG, contemplados pelo programa de mobilidade internacional “Ciência sem Fronteiras”, criado em 2011, pelo governo federal. A despeito do principal objeto dessa pesquisa, os dados obtidos revelaram diversas expectativas dos entrevistados a respeito dos possíveis impactos desse intercâmbio em sua formação profissional e carreira. Portanto, esse trabalho tem o propósito de demonstrar as diferentes motivações subjacentes à opção pelo intercâmbio, relacionadas a esse factível impacto. A referência metodológica para essa questão de pesquisa baseou-se na análise de conteúdo, por meio do estabelecimento de categorias que orientaram o estudo qualitativo do discurso dos entrevistados. Constituíram-se como principais categorias de análise motivadoras do intercâmbio para fins profissionais e de carreira: a influência familiar, a opção pelo país e a universidade de destino, o estabelecimento de networkings (capital social), a aprendizagem de língua estrangeira para o aprimoramento profissional, o contato com diferentes culturas e ainda a possibilidade da pós-graduação, tendo em vista a especialização para a carreira de pesquisa e docência universitária.
