A teaching methodology for undergraduate laboratory classes

Resumo: This paper proposes some changes in the methodology traditionally adopted in both experimental Physics and Engineering disciplines. Based on the authors’ experience at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) and Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), the methodology proposed intends to provide a more investigative character to practical classes, which principal aim can be considered the search for an education for competence. In order to provide a basis for the beginning student in laboratory courses, the need to create an introductory discipline has been discussed. This discipline has been offered by UFMG since the first semester of 2011. Since the second semester of the same year, the discipline has also been offered by UFV through video conference system. A pilot project for the virtualization of this course is under development in order to make it available through Internet to other educational institutions.

Baseada em experiências vivenciadas pelos autores na Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) e na Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), a metodologia apresentada visa a um caráter mais investigativo nas aulas práticas, cujo principal objetivo pode ser enquadrado na busca por um ensino por competências. A fim de proporcionar uma base ao aluno iniciante nos cursos de laboratório, é discutida a necessidade de criação de uma disciplina introdutória, que vem sendo oferecida pela UFMG desde o primeiro semestre de 2011. A partir do segundo semestre de 2011, essa disciplina também vem sendo ofertada pela UFV, em sistema de videoconferência.
