Teaching challenges in times of social isolation: a study with Accounting Science teachers

Resumo: The literature presents a wide set of challenges that are faced in the daily teaching career, but it lacks of evidence in contingency situations, such as the isolation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, we sought to investigate the effects of social isolation on the difficulties faced by teachers in Accounting Sciences courses at public and private higher education institutions. For this purpose, a survey was applied to 30 teachers, and the raised difficulties were categorized based on the technique of content analysis, from the perspective of the teacher and the student. Among the findings, the difficulties related to the reduction of time were observed from the perspective of the teacher, and the lack of motivation stood out as one of the main problems in the students’ perception. As contributions, the adaptability of the professor in relation to the difficulties already faced before the pandemic was evident, as well as the implications that can contribute to the adoption of strategies to adapt the teaching process.

Así, se buscó investigar los efectos del aislamiento social sobre las dificultades que enfrentan los docentes de la carrera de Ciencias Contables en instituciones de educación superior públicas y privadas. Para ello, se aplicó una encuesta a 30 docentes, y se categorizaron las dificultades planteadas con base en la técnica de análisis de contenido, desde la perspectiva del docente y del alumno. Entre los hallazgos, se observó, desde la perspectiva del docente, las dificultades relacionadas con la reducción del tiempo y, en la percepción del alumno, se destacó la falta de motivación como uno de los principales problemas. Como aportes, se evidenció la adaptabilidad de los docentes en relación a las dificultades ya enfrentadas antes de la pandemia, así como implicaciones que pueden contribuir a la adopción de estrategias para adecuar el proceso de enseñanza.A literatura apresenta um conjunto robusto de desafios que são enfrentados no cotidiano da carreira docente, mas é carente de evidências em situações contingenciais, tal como o isolamento causado pela pandemia da Covid-19. Assim, buscou-se investigar os efeitos do isolamento social nas dificuldades enfrentadas pelos docentes dos cursos de Ciências Contábeis de instituições de ensino superior públicas e privadas. Para isso, foi aplicada uma survey a 30 professores, e as dificuldades levantadas foram categorizadas a partir da técnica de análise de conteúdo, nas perspectivas do docente e sobre o discente. Entre os achados, observou-se, sob a perspectiva do docente, as dificuldades relacionadas à redução de tempo e, na percepção sobre o discente, destacou-se a falta de motivação como um dos principais problemas.
