Mental health and pandemic: perceptions of undergraduate students in administration of a federal institute

Resumo: The restrictions imposed with the arrival of a global health crisis and aggravated by elements of the Brazilian context modified the dynamics of educational institutions and losses were perceived by the academic community. In this context, the objective of this study was to analyze the effects of the covid-19 pandemic on the mental health of undergraduate students in Business Administration at a Brazilian federal institute. Through on-line questionnaires made available in 2020 and 2021, the emotional impacts of the covid-19 pandemic on respondents were mapped. In the case of the students surveyed, the data indicate the occurrence of moments of sadness, fear, and loneliness, for example. These aspects reinforce the importance of face-to-face contact between members of the academic community as a constituent part of the educational process. In addition, it is highlighted that psychological interventions can play a relevant role in dealing with the implications on mental health because of moments such as pandemic times.

En ese contexto, el objetivo de este estudio fue analizar los efectos de la pandemia de covid-19 en la salud mental de estudiantes de pregrado en Administración de Empresas de un instituto federal brasileño. A través de cuestionarios en línea disponibles en 2020 y 2021, se mapearon los impactos emocionales de la pandemia de covid-19 en los encuestados. En el caso de los estudiantes encuestados, los datos indican la ocurrencia de momentos de tristeza, miedo y soledad, por ejemplo. Estos aspectos refuerzan la importancia del contacto cara a cara entre los miembros de la comunidad académica como parte constitutiva del proceso educativo. Además, se destaca que las intervenciones psicológicas pueden jugar un papel relevante en el abordaje de las implicaciones en la salud mental resultante de momentos como los tiempos de pandemia.As restrições impostas com a chegada de uma crise sanitária mundial, agravada por elementos do contexto brasileiro, modificaram a dinâmica das instituições de ensino e causaram prejuízos à comunidade acadêmica. Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste estudo foi analisar os efeitos da pandemia de covid-19 sobre a saúde mental dos estudantes do curso de graduação em Administração de um instituto federal brasileiro. Por meio de questionários on-line disponibilizados em 2020 e 2021, foram mapeados os impactos emocionais da pandemia de covid-19 nos respondentes. No caso dos estudantes pesquisados, os dados apontam a ocorrência de momentos de tristeza, medo e solidão, por exemplo. Esses aspectos reforçam a importância do contato presencial entre membros da comunidade acadêmica como parte constituinte do processo educativo.
