Resumo: The covid-19 pandemic demonstrated that improvisation was paramount in teaching and learning. In the context of Cellular and Molecular Biology (CMB), a subject that requires the understanding of cellular and molecular processes, it is essential to approach other didactic modalities in addition to the lecture. The aim of this study was to investigate how two CMB professors from two Brazilian universities faced the changes imposed by the pandemic in a context of teaching and learning in the classroom and beyond it. The study had a qualitative approach with an exploratory design. We collected data through semi-structured interviews, as well as analyzed them using the content analysis technique. The study showed that even though there was an attachment to lectures, teachers wanted to innovate in teaching and get physically closer to their students, as well as establish laboratory practices to contribute to the learning process, which was made unfeasible due to social isolation.
