Resumo: This study investigates the potential regret may have in relation to human constitution. Through an analytic-interpretive method, it approaches the view that Christian philosophers and theologists, such as Christos Yannaras and Serguei Horujy, hold about the human condition in their anthropology based on the person. For these authors, man is ontologically open to the encounter and exchange with otherness: a being whose own existential vocation is fulfilled only as long as they transcend themselves through such originary characteristic. Regret as metanoia is ultimately understood as an event that sustains such ontological openness and presents itself as a device of human transformation when the latter is occasionally hindered. The discussion brought forth in the theological context is thereafter transposed to the clinical situation, in order to raise questions about interventions and management options that may benefit from human regret as a path towards the constitution of the person.
