Stress among hospital nurses and the relation with the socio-demographics variables

Resumo: The goal of this study is to analyze the influence of the social-demographic variables on the perception of the stress among hospital nurses. Based in the transactional framework of stress, this is a study of quantitative descriptive and co relational approach. The data was collected among 101 nurses of a hospital of high complexity in the municipal district of São Paulo. Bianchi Stress Inventory, Work Stress Scale and Perceived Stress Scale were used for collecting data. The results demonstrated that the nurses have a medium level of stress (average = 3,80) and the situations perceived as stressful were related to the physical environment in the unit of work, the relational aspects of the work process , the health-disease process of the patient and the organization of the work in the hospital. Se trata de un estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo y correlacional en el cual participaron 101 enfermeros de un hospital de alta complejidad del municipio de San Pablo. Para la recogida datos se utilizaron la Escala de Estrés Bianchi, la Escala de Estrés Laboral y la Escala de Estrés Percibido. Se obtuvo como resultado que los enfermeros participantes tienen niveles medios de estrés (promedio = 3,80) y que las situaciones percibidas como estresantes fueron las relacionadas al entorno físico de la unidad laboral, al proceso salud-enfermedad de los pacientes , a los aspectos relacionales del proceso laboral de enfermería y a la organización del trabajo en la institución de salud. Las variables que mostraron relación estadísticamente significativa con los niveles de estrés de los enfermos fueron: edad (pO objetivo com esta pesquisa foi estudar a influência das variáveis sociodemográficas na percepção do estresse. Baseando no modelo interacionista do estresse, utilizou-se a abordagem quantitativa, descritiva e correlacional. Participaram do estudo 101 enfermeiros de um hospital de alta complexidade do município de São Paulo. Foram utilizadas a Escala Bianchi de Stress, Escala de Estresse no Trabalho e Escala de Estresse Percebido para a coleta de dados. Os resultados permitiram constatar que os enfermeiros participantes apresentam nível médio de estresse (média = 3,80) e que as situações percebidas como estressantes foram aquelas relacionadas ao ambiente físico da unidade de trabalho, aos aspectos relacionais do processo de trabalho da enfermagem, ao processo saúde-doença dos pacientes e à organização do processo de trabalho na instituição de saúde.
