Professional education: the nursing student's experiences in providing care for critical patients

Resumo: The aim of this study is to notice the experiences of students following a nursing technical course while learning to provide care for critical patients in the public intensive care context. Eleven students from a Professionalizing School of Ribeirão Preto - SP were interviewed between July and October 2006. The phenomenological approach technique was used. Three themes were built in an articulated manner: the student's closeness to the technical intensive care world; the student's sensitivity in the technical ICU world; and the process of learning in the ICU. It is necessary to review the education process by incorporating knowledge, abilities and attitudes which allow a better understanding of the ICU in the present health context and in the subjective and social world of the critical patient. With such purpose, it is essential to transcend the technical training and to build an educational practice consistent with the formation of the human person.

With such purpose, it is essential to transcend the technical training and to build an educational practice consistent with the formation of the human person.El objetivo de este estudio es comprender la vivencia del estudiante del curso de habilitación profesional técnico de enfermería en el aprendizaje del cuidado de enfermos en estado crítico, en el escenario de los cuidados intensivos (UCI), dentro del contexto del SUS. Basándose en el enfoque fenomenológico, se realizaron once entrevistas con estudiantes de una Escuela Técnica del municipio de Ribeirão Preto - SP, entre julio y octubre de 2006. Se construyeron, de modo articulado, tres temáticas: aproximación del estudiante al mundo técnico de los cuidados intensivos; el despertar de la sensibilidad del estudiante en el mundo técnico de la UCI; el aprendizaje en la UCI. El proceso formativo debe ser reevaluado, incorporando conocimientos, habilidades y actitudes orientados a la comprensión de la UCI dentro del contexto de salud actual, del mundo subjetivo y social del enfermo en estado crítico y de los problemas existenciales. Para ello, es fundamental trascender la capacitación técnica y construir una práctica educativa, en armonía con la formación del ser humano.O objetivo com este estudo é compreender a vivência do estudante do curso de habilitação profissional técnico de enfermagem no aprendizado do cuidado aos doentes críticos, no cenário da terapia intensiva (CTI), no contexto do SUS. Fundamentando-se na abordagem fenomenológica, foram realizadas 11 entrevistas com estudantes de uma escola profissionalizante do município de Ribeirão Preto-SP, de julho a outubro de 2006. Foram construídas, de modo articulado, três temáticas: Aproximação do educando ao mundo técnico da terapia intensiva; O emergir da sensibilidade do educando no mundo técnico do CTI; O aprendizado em CTI. É preciso rever o processo formativo, incorporando conhecimentos, habilidades e atitudes voltados para a compreensão do CTI no contexto de saúde atual, do mundo subjetivo e social do doente crítico, das questões existenciais.
