Resumo: | This article is based on Max Scheler's Theory of Values and its objective is to understand the utility value imbued on the act of instructing of a nurse educator and to discuss it in the light of Scheler's postulations: nursing holds a set of values that forms the basis for the elaboration of a scale of values. The qualitative methodology was used with a phenomenological approach. The participants were seven nurses of three higher education institutions located in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The research was conducted from August 2007 to June 2008. Data were collected through interviews and the utility value that emerged from the nurse educator's discourse derived from the act of instructing. The results indicated that it was through the process of education that the nurse educator presented to the student the utility values concept acknowledging it as the nursing care praxis instituting factor |

La enfermería tiene un conjunto de valores que utiliza para elaborar una escala. Su objetivo fue comprender el valor útil en el acto de educar al enfermero-docente y discutirlo a la luz de los presupuestos de Max Scheler. Se llevó a cabo según la metodología cualitativa, centrada en el enfoque fenomenológico. Participaron siete enfermeros profesores de instituciones de enseñanza superior de enfermería de la ciudad de Río de Janeiro. El estudio fue realizado de agosto de 2007 a junio de 2008. Los datos fueron recogidos mediante entrevistas y el valor útil surgió en el discurso del enfermero docente en el acto de educar. Por medio del acto de educar al enfermero les presentó el valor útil a los alumnos, ratificándolo como instituyente para la práctica asistencial de enfermeríaEste artigo é balizado na Teoria de Valor. O objetivo com esta pesquisa foi compreender o valor útil no ato de educar do enfermeiro-docente e discuti-lo à luz dos pressupostos de Max Scheler. Participaram do estudo sete enfermeiros docentes de três instituições de ensino superior de enfermagem, localizadas na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. O período de realização foi de agosto de 2007 a junho de 2008. Os dados foram obtidos por meio de entrevista e o valor útil emergiu no discurso do enfermeiro docente no ato de educar.
