Resumo: The purpose of the study was to analyse the nosocomial infection concept of 23 nursing team professionals, in medical surgical units of a major general Hospital in Belo Horizonte. The results were analysed by the theoretical and scientific conceptions about nosocomial infection. The concept of nosocomial infection was presented partially by 21,7% and the same percentage got close of the General Surgeon concept. The (56.6%) left, built up their concept using facts of the infectious process. The concept that the professionals have about nosocomial infection will be one of the references for the actions of prevention and control of nosocomial infection.

The concept that the professionals have about nosocomial infection will be one of the references for the actions of prevention and control of nosocomial infection.El estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar el concepto que tienen 23 profesionales del equipo de enfermeros de la unidad clinica medico-quirurgica de un hospital general de Belo Horizonte, Brazil, acerca de la infección hospitalaria. Los resultados fueron analizados con base en una concepción teorica y científica de la infección hospitalaria. El 21.7% de los entrevistados presentaron tener un concepto parcial de infección hospitalaria y un porcentage igual dio el concepto aproximado del ministerio de la salud. Los demás (56.6%) formularon el concepto usando elementos del proceso infeccioso. El concepto que los profesionales tienen sobre la infección hospitalaria será una de las referencias para las accionnes de prevención y de control de la infección hospitalaria.Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar o conceito de infecção hospitalar (IH) de 23 profissionais da equipe de enfermagem, de unidades de clínica médico-cirúrgica de um hospital geral de Belo Horizonte. Os resultados foram analisados à luz das concepções teóricas e científicas sobre infecção hospitalar. O conceito de infecção hospitalar foi apresentado de forma parcial por 21,7% e igual percentual aproximou-se do conceito estabelecido pelo Ministério da Saúde. Os demais (56.6%) formularam o conceito usando elementos do processo infeccioso.
